Authenticity and Plagiarism
Your coaching portfolio is an opportunity for you to document and share your coaching knowledge and expertise. It is unique to you and communicates who you are as a coach, who you will coach, and the problems you solve. Your work will be assessed for uniqueness. We encourage you to draw on your learning, reflections and third party research - but you must be careful to never plagiarise.
When conducting research for your portfolio you might watch a video, read an article, listen to a podcast, revisit ICA modules, or even just browse the internet. All are considered valuable resources for extending your learning or supporting the opinions or insights you are presenting in your portfolio. However, it's important that you don't over rely on 3rd party content, or inadvertently include other peoples words, ideas or work without without referencing it. The referencing system we have used as an example is the Harvard System. But, you can use any system that works best for you.
- It's OK to refer to research and refer to previous studies or content (make sure you reference it)
- Its NOT OK to cut / paste the work of others into your portfolio pieces
ICA runs all portfolio work through a checker such as Grammarly We encourage you to do the same. Not only will it help with referencing but you might also find the spelling and grammar suggestions helpful.
All ICA classes require a minimum number of classes and labs be attended in 'real time'. This means attending a zoom class with your camera on or audio connected, and actively engaging in the learning. These should be recorded in the graduation checklist and submitted at the time of graduation.
All programs have assessments. These serve three purposes
- Support you, as the learner, evaluate your skill level.
- For ICA to determine your skill level as per the outcome requirements
- For ICA to report your skill level, where required, to the ICF for the purpose of accreditation and certification compliance
The work submitted must be your own, unique to you, and created for the purpose of the specific outcome or assessment.
