Prepare for Your Recording
1. It sounds obvious, but make sure you are both in a quiet space with no distractions
2. If your coaching session is conducted online or over the phone then Zoom is the best way to record. You can get a free account which enables you to save your meeting recordings in MP4 (video), M4A (audio) and txt (chat) form.
3. Record as many sessions as you can, then select the sample you want to bring to class based on your own sense of the areas you need to develop in.
How to Prepare for Class
1. Cue your recording
Your coaching is a 10-minute sample from a full recording. This means that before class you must select your sample. So, for example, if you decide you want to work on the way you establish The Coaching Agreement you might choose the first 10 minutes of a session. If you want to work on Facilitating Growth you might choose the last 10 minutes. Cue your recording up to start at the precise minute the sample begins. So, if it is at the 22-minute mark, get the recording ready to start at 22 minutes. Then, when it is your turn to present simply hit play so the Mentor Trainer and your Peers can hear the recording.
2. Choose Areas for Development
The aim of Mentor Coaching is NOT to present perfect coaching. It is to present coaching that shows areas you need to develop in, then get specific feedback on those areas. So, for example if you have a client who talks a lot and you were unsure whether to interrupt your client or let them talk on, you might choose this sample to bring to class, and ask your Mentor to guide you in this area. If you are unsure of whether or not your feedback fell into the "giving advice" territory, then bring that example to class.
