Purpose
and Context:

As part of the ICF Credentialing process, applicants must pass a Performance Evaluation. The purpose of the Performance Evaluation is to ensure the applicant's coaching is aligned with the ICF Core Competencies and demonstrates the coaching skills required at each level of credentialing.

Scope:

This policy applies to students at ICA.

Application

The aim of the Oral Exam is to assess a student's level of coaching, as required to graduate for their program (and future credential application).

The Oral Exam is an assessment task to showcase coaching at a required level. Students will submit a recording of a full coaching session, which will then be reviewed and graded by an ICA assessor. The assessment will be based on the International Coach Federation core competencies - using the ICF markers as the behavioral indicators for how those competencies show up in a coaching session.

Level 2 students will be assessed against PCC markers. Level 1 students are assessed against ACC markers.

Policy & Procedure

Outcome: Session not complete

For a session to be formally assessed it must comply with the oral exam requirements, and specifically the timeframe of 30 - 35 minutes.  If non-compliant, the following applies

Action: Resubmit a new session (within 2 weeks)

Fee:   $150 USD

Outcome: Not Yet Competent

As per the ICA’s assessment and graduation policy the oral exam process is not only intended to determine skill level, but is also a process of providing feedback, and in the case of a ‘Not Yet Competent’ outcome, recommendations for corrective action.

When a session is marked as Not Yet Competent, the student will be notified via email and offered the following options:

Option 1: Resubmit a 2nd Session for Review

Detailed written feedback based on the session observations, together with a transcript of the session, will be emailed to the student. The corrective feedback provided during Observed Coaching will also be reissued.

Option 2: Exit the Program with a lower level Certification

Students will also have the option of exiting the program without re-submitting their oral exam.  Your previously completed classes, labs and coursework will be certified as Approved Coach Specific Training Hours and credited towards any future Level 1 or 2 study.

Action: Submit Final Graduation checklist, with your oral exam outcome (within 3 weeks)

Fee:  No Cost

In the case of no action taken by the student

If students do not take any action within 3 weeks of receiving their result, then Option 2 will automatically apply, and the student will be issued with an ICA certification for classes, labs, and coursework completed.

Additional Opportunities

Extended learning is available on a ‘fee for service’ basis for those wanting to extend or consolidate their learning, or apply corrective action with Mentor feedback. These options are optional and apply only to those wanting to continue with a 2nd submission.
